Mr. D took a team of students and adults to Newark last weekend as they shared their time and talents to help out a ministry that helps other people. They had an awesome time "giving themselves away" while painting and sorting (and sometimes modeling) clothing. Whether it's serving like this, repairing homes in Niagara Falls, or stocking the local food shelf we are putting into action our new overall name for studentLIFE missions: share. Be ready, more opportunities are right around the corner . . .

Psalm 27:1
The LORD is my light and salvation whom shal I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life whom shal I be arfaid?

I hope that the summer is going well for everyone. As we go forward into the second half of the summer take some time to think about what is going on in your life. Is it good? Is it bad? Where do you want to be? How can you get there? This simple passage from Psalm can answer some of them. THINK about this passage and then THINK about the questions of your life. PRAY hard.
Peace

Summer Thoughts

The summer affords us a lot of down time where we can learn alot about ourselves and others. Once on a hot July night I was messing around on my block with some older kids and at first everything was cool. But as the night progressed we started to more and more stupid things. Around 9:30 one of the older kids produced some fireworks. Not some but a garbage bag full. As we began firing them off I thought to myself this is so cool, what a great night, these guys are cool, they realy are thinking about me and I think that I can trust them. About 9:45 the police came and we all scettered. I wound up hiding in the bushes on the side of a house with one of the new friends that I have made and thought was so cool. As the police turned the corner 2 things happened. 1 I realized that I was going to be in alot of trouble and I was not feeling well. 2 the friend that I was hiding out with had left and I was all alone. Out of the five of us, I was the only one that got cought. After sitting in the back of the police car and my parents comming out to claim me from the police I had to face my parents. I do not think that my parents spoke to me for a week and I stayed in my room for at least that long. When they finally spoke to me the topic was not all about the fact I was brought home by the police but the fact that I made a stupid choice. Fortunate for me I had a sister that was getting in more trouble than me and the summer was not lost.
The point is that I made a stupid choice that could have had a bad ending. At that time in my life I had not givin my life to Christ and thought I could do this alone. The reality is the simple passage from Matthew 9:9 "As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Mattew at the tax collector's booth. "Follow me," he told him, and Mattew got up and followed."
This is a great passage because of 2 words "Follow me". They are challenging words that echo in my head every day.
Take some time this summer when its quiet and there is nothing to do and think to yourselves "Follow me". Its not about stuff you want, its not about friends or getting ready for a new school year, its about God and and a great question that he asks us all the time. Will you "Follow me" this summer.
Peace,
Andrew

Romans 5:6-8
You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a rightous man, though for a good man someone might possible dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
I know that this is long but if you take your time there is a lot to unpack here. Any questions or comments please call or text us.

Some Thoughts from Devotional Today

Hello All,
I found this quote during my devotional this morning. This is from a man named Cotton Cordell. "Teach a kid about GOD, Hunting and Fishing and no drug dealer in the world can ever touch them". I do not know how many of you know how to hunt or fish but I hope that you take the time to learn about God. We are trying to help you find ways of spending time with God and experiencing all that is good in his world.
I have found in my life there are two places that bring me extreemly close to God. When I go hunting its cool that I get to carry a gun and wear cool clothes. However with the gun and clothes comes the responsibility of safety. Thats where the goofy orange hat comes in. If I do not wear the hat I risk the chance of being shot or worse being killed. In your life at school or out with friends do you wear the orange hat that helps you to stand out for God or do you just try to fit in to pass the time? The other aspect of hunting is that you need to be extreemly quiet. I hate quiet! But when I am quiet I can hear, see and feel God even more than if I were to run wild and may be see a couple of signs along the way. Where do you find complete quiet for God?
Fishing is whole different way that I have learned to experience God. There two types of fishing. Back country which is a lot like hunting requiring total silence while tracking the fish and ocean fishing. I prefer ocean fishing because its a lot like life. I go out into the ocean at the start of the day and all is well with my life and by the end of the day there could be a storm approaching with the ocean kicking up 10 foot seas. 10 foot seas is not fun especially when you are responsible for the safety of all aboard. That is usually in life where I look to God. Our life is spinning and it feels like we are going under. But if I take the time when the seas are calm and look out realizing how grand God's world is and praise him for it, the rough times will be easier to navigate. Do you take the time to see God's world or do you wait until things are not going so good for you?

Build others up......

The soap verse for 5.27.9 jumped out at me when I read it. "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths...." This is a challenge for many of us and then for some it is a non-issue. The verse goes on to say "but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen." I just want to encourage you to pay close attention to what you say, can your friends see a difference in you by the way you act and by the way you talk? Would you talk differently if Jesus was sitting next to you? Are your conversations belittling or are they uplifting? Be the person that everone wants to talk to so when they walk away they don't feel discouraged but are encouraged by your positive attitude and outlook on life.
Challenge:
Offer a sincere compliment to at least 2 people every day for 5 days.
Avoid sarcasm of any kind for at least 3 days.
(It is much harder to do than you think).
I would love to hear how this works for any of you.
Let me be the first to say, "I accept this challenge!"
Please give us your feedback!
Let us hear how you were able to make a difference in someone's day!
Love you all!

EVERY day

The day after the nice long Memorial Day weekend is usually a little blah since it means back to school and work. Today seemed like it was following suit as the alarm went off this morning. But then it hit me . . . ( no, not the alarm, it just plays music to wake me up - there is no physical harm involved ) . . . we set aside ONE day to honor and thank those who have paid the ultimate price for our freedom, and then as soon as the NEXT day, we quickly forget that and go on with the "drudgery" of the routine of another 24 hours. I was reminded this morning to be thankful EVERY day - not only for the current, social freedom that I enjoy, but most importantly the eternal, spiritual freedom that I have through Jesus' death on the cross in my place. I desire to live EACH day in a way that says "thank you" for the freedom I have, and honors the sacrifice made for me.

SOAP verse: 1 Peter 2:16 "Live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as servants of God."

"I mean that I want us to help each other with the faith we have. Your faith will help me, and my faith will help you" (Romans 1:12 NCV).

I read a good devotional today by Rick Warren and he said this in it: "All of us are more consistent in our faith when others walk with us and encourage us. The Bible commands mutual accountability, mutual encouragement, mutual serving, and mutual honoring."

This is what we mean by "living life together . . ." I look forward to seeing you this weekend for the Seventh Day Slumber concert on Fri or Sat, or on Sunday morning for ELEVATE!

Awesome Morning, Awesome God!

We thank God for the awesome morning He gave us together as we launched our new Middle School worship service "ELEVATE". The game was awkward and funny - you guys were great sports, the music was rocking, the room was PACKED - we had to add lots of chairs, the Connection Groups clicked, and those that were walking by were wishing they would have joined us. Thanks to all who played a role in pulling it off, and thanks to God for blessing it so! Let's each invite someone new to join us this Sunday and see if we can't push the walls out!
